On the Road to Lead - Day 23
Today was a typical cool morning start with jackets as we set out for Lead, SD. I soon discovered that a rider who joined us for this week had the exact same bike as mine. Jack and I rode together for a bit and traded some stories. Several times during the week I tried to grab his bike instead of mine at lunch. After our picnic lunch at the golf course in Belle Fourche, we turned south and passed through the old town of Spearfish. Shortly after Spearfish at mile 65 we entered Spearfish Canyon. It was a beautiful 20 mile climb at a gentle 2-3 % grade with both sides lined with tree filled steep cliffs. The two pictures are the typical view looking up as I rode through the canyon. We are getting better at handling inclines as the approximate 3% grade was a relatively comfortable ride. Our route continued towards Lead through lush tree lined rolling hills.
