On the Road to Burlington - Day 58

After breakfast back at the Northwoods Inn, we set out for Burlington under threatening skies.  Today's agenda included a scenic ride in the morning and a ferry ride to Burlington over Lake Champlain in the afternoon.  About 10 miles on our way we passed by the base of Whiteface Mountain with a full view of the ski runs.  Shortly thereafter we crossed through the Jay Covered Bridge, the only remaining wooden truss covered bridge in the Adirondack Park.  At this point the skies continued to darken.  Then as we were speeding along trying to outrun the approaching thunderstorms, this herd of elk came into view.  We came to a screeching stop for pictures, rain or not.  The thunderstorm caught us about 15 minutes later and soaked us for a half hour.  Finally we arrived for lunch just past the entrance to Ausable Chasm and within 3 miles of the ferry dock.  Under a now beautiful sunny sky we ate, dried out and cleaned up.  After viewing the chasms for a half hour, we rode down to the ferry dock.
