On the Road to Miller - Day 30

As we headed east from Pierre, we started week 5 following the Missouri River for 20 miles through rolling green countryside.  Early on the skies were a bit ominous looking.  We were treated to periodic light sprinkles for an hour or so which kept the temperatures in check for a while.  After a steep 1 mile climb of which 240' were classified as vertical,  we were rewarded with a grand vista of the Missouri River and a water stop.  At this point we turned inland away from the river.  After lunch at mile 55, we rode past our first wind farm of the trip.  There must have been 25 - 30 of these 100' high structures with their 122' long blades turning at 13 - 19 rpm silently generating electricity.  It took us a while to ride past all of them.  A moderate tail wind helped make the balance of the ride into Miller a breeze as the temperatures rose.  One mile from town a DQ hit the spot.
