Teton Pass

Up and Over Teton Pass was the challenge for today. This is the highest ( elevation 8456') and steepest pass so far with 10 miles up ( 3 miles at 10% grade) and 5 miles down ( all at 10% grade) starting at 50 miles into the ride.  I had worried about riding this pass all last night.  Going up was OK except that I had to walk the last 2 miles of the 10% grade.  Going down was the greater concern of maintaining control and not blowing tires or brakes due to excessive heat on the rims with too much braking.  All went well with alternating brakes and stopping several times on the descent to allow the rims to cool which were too hot to touch.  All of us made a safe descent and lived to talk about it tonight.  The pictures at the top show the Jackson Hole valley in the background.  That is Dr. Mike holding his bike.
