Pierre, SD - Day 28

Stats: Rode 89 miles under sunny hot skies with temperatures over 100 degrees.  We were warned last night to prepare for a hot ride and breakfast was moved up a half hour to 6am to allow for an earlier than normal start.  Fortunately we had a tailwind on relatively flat terrain which allowed for a quick ride. I averaged 17.5 mph and was in Pierre by 1pm before the hottest part of the day.  I immediately headed for Zesto - Pierre's version of Flubs - and had a strawberry shake that tasted awfully good.  There was not much spectacular scenery as we rode primarily past flat wheat fields.  Hence the picture. We crossed the Missouri River as we entered Pierre from Fort Pierre on the west side of the river.  Camp is at the Indian Learning School in Pierre with inside dorm style accommodation.  I shared a room with Dan (ON) for the weekend.  The Learning Center is a boarding school for special needs children from the area's Indian reservations.  There are several similar campuses throughout the west.  This evening Bill (PA) and I had a nice dinner at the View Restaurant where we joined Tony, Jan, Marnyx and Chuck.
